The Monorepo Advantage
Running multiple client sites as independent repositories works until it doesn’t. At 5+ sites, the maintenance burden grows faster than your revenue. Every bug fix gets applied separately. Every design improvement requires a pull request per site. Shared components drift apart until each project is its own fragile snowflake.
The Agency plan’s monorepo architecture solves this with three structural decisions:
Shared components with per-site overrides. Layouts, navigation, footers, hero sections, and UI primitives live in shared packages that every site imports. When you fix a bug or ship a design improvement, every site gets the update on its next build. If a specific client needs a custom variant, that site can override any shared component locally without affecting the others.
Theme tokens instead of forked stylesheets. Each site controls its visual identity through a theme.json file that defines light and dark color palettes, typography, and spacing. Shared components read these tokens via CSS custom properties, so the same Hero component renders with completely different branding on each site. No duplicated CSS. No style drift.
Independent deploys with dependency-aware builds. Turborepo’s build graph ensures that changing a shared package only rebuilds the sites that depend on it. Site A’s deployment never blocks Site B. You can ship updates to one client in minutes without risking regressions across your entire portfolio.
The compounding return is significant. The first site takes the longest to build. By the fifth, you are scaffolding from an existing site, swapping config files, and deploying in under an hour. Every site you add makes the architecture more valuable, not more burdensome.
